Location: York Place, Port Coquitlam, BC
Project Scope: Removal of Embedded Bedrock/Boulders
Duration: 2 Hours
Site preparation in Port Coquitlam often reveals hidden bedrock or large, ground-embedded boulders that standard machinery simply can’t budge. On York Place, a project was stalled by a massive rock firmly rooted in the ground. Rock Busters was called in to perform a “surgical” removal to clear the way for the next phase of development.
The Challenge
Because the boulder was embedded deep in the ground, it was impossible to get a chain or bucket around it. The location on York Place also required a low-vibration solution to ensure that the surrounding soil stability and nearby property foundations remained undisturbed.
The Solution: 2 Men, 2 Hours, Job Done
We sent a 2-person specialist crew to perform a rapid bedrock demolition using our specialized “drill and split” system.
- Targeted Drilling: Our crew used high-efficiency rock drills to penetrate the heart of the embedded stone, creating the perfect fracture lines.
- Pneumatic Splitting: By inserting our pneumatic splitter into the pilot holes, we applied internal pressure that forced the rock to snap along the grain.
- Efficiency at Scale: What would have taken an excavator hours of unproductive “scratching” was completed by our team in just 2 hours. By the time we left, the “iceberg” boulder was reduced to manageable fragments.
