Client: Complete Utilities
Location: 63rd Ave & Granville St, Vancouver, BC
Scope: Obstruction Removal for Utility Lines
In the busy Marpole neighbourhood of Vancouver, Complete Utilities encountered a major roadblock: massive subterranean boulders directly in the path of new utility installations. To keep the project moving without bringing in oversized excavators or closing down more of the street than necessary, they called in the specialists at Rock Busters.
The Challenge
Working at a high-traffic intersection like 63rd and Granville means space is limited and time is money. The boulders were too large for standard backhoes to lift and were positioned dangerously close to existing underground lines, making traditional hammering too risky.
The Solution: Compact Efficiency
We sent a single specialist operator to handle the job over a two-day window. This allowed the site to remain clear for other trades while the rock was systematically removed.
Precision Prep: Using our high-torque rock drills, we prepped the boulders within the trench.
Pneumatic Splitting: Our portable pneumatic splitter allowed for a “silent” break. By applying lateral pressure, we fractured the boulders into small, manageable pieces that could be hand-loaded or cleared with small machinery.
Zero Downtime: Because our process is low-vibration, Complete Utilities was able to continue work nearby without fear of damaging existing infrastructure.
