Location: 514 West 59th Avenue, Vancouver, BC
Project Scope: Residential Boulder Splitting
Duration: 3 Hours
Hidden boulders are a common surprise in Vancouver’s West Side. At this property on West 59th Avenue, a large boulder was discovered during excavation, threatening to delay the next phase of construction. Rock Busters provided a rapid-response solution to keep the site on track.
The Challenge
The boulder was located in a residential area where heavy hammering or blasting would have caused significant noise complaints and ground vibration. The goal was to remove the rock quickly, quietly, and within a tight work window.
The Solution: The 3-Hour Precision Break
A 2-person specialist crew was dispatched to handle the removal. By using a “low-impact” method, we were able to break the boulder down in the middle of a workday without disturbing the neighbors.
- Precision Rock Drilling: Our team drilled strategic holes to dictate exactly how the rock would fracture.
- Pneumatic Splitting: Using our pneumatic technology, we applied thousands of pounds of internal pressure to the rock. Within minutes of setup, the boulder split into manageable pieces.
- Efficient Workflow: With two operators working in tandem, the entire process—from setup to final break—took just 3 hours.
